In general

Schröpfen and Cupping are both methods that use suction on the skin but differ in origin, technique, and application.

Traditional Schröpfen is typically performed with rigid glass cups. By heating the air inside the glass, a vacuum is created that causes the cup to suction onto the skin. This treatment is usually stationary and performed by experienced therapists. In some traditions, there are also wet variants where small skin incisions are made beforehand to allow blood to flow out of the tissue. Schröpfen is typically used in medical-therapeutic or clinical contexts.

The modern Cupping, as practiced with BellaBambi®-Cups, differs in several ways. Instead of glass, flexible silicone cups are used, which can be easily squeezed and applied in a mobile way—whether for self-use, partner use, training, or therapy. Because of their mobility, the cups can be applied not only statically but also moved across the skin. This creates not only suction but also pulling and shearing forces, making the treatment more versatile. Wet variants like those in traditional Schröpfen are not used here. Cupping is therefore especially suitable for use in sports, wellness, prevention, and rehabilitation.

Despite the differences, there are also similarities: Both methods work with locally generated suction, have a long tradition, and are interpreted in various modern ways today. Scientific studies show positive effects, especially on pain relief, although the quality of the research varies. In any case, proper and hygienic application is essential to avoid risks—particularly infections from improper use.
